IncludedKids is your resource for education resources and materials to help foster inclusion in the classroom for children with disabilities.

What is Inclusion?

Early in the 1990’s the term “Inclusion” was introduced to the world of public education for children with special needs. It was a difficult concept for many to understand that children with many different abilities would be in the regular education classroom.

Many teachers were skeptical at this time and asked some pretty big questions:

  • What benefit would it have?
  • What would they be able to do?
  • Would it hold back their class from reaching achievement?

Those were the challenges that faced educators during a pivotal moment in education history.

It was this time when I began working with children with disabilities as a paraprofessional. Finding ways to include children with disabilities in the regular classroom was a challenge. Educators were not prepared for students that could not meet the curriculum requirements. Much work was done to help us all understand the importance of children being with their peers and working at a level that would benefit them, still within the curriculum.

Here we are 20 plus years later and still facing the same challenges. I have spent several years working with children with various disabilities and academic levels mainly 4th through 6th grade. The hardest part has been to find materials quickly that pertain to content area at a level that benefits their learning.

My hope is that you will find the information on this website to be helpful with your search for materials for your students. All of the links I have included will provide you with materials that you can print to use for creating activities.
